Title: Need an am receiver
Post by: guy hanson on September 15, 2010, 12:11:08 PM
Just bought Red Bartons mini Venom truck. Think I will run it with one of my AM transmitters. No special reason.  I need a receiver for it .  Also , what size/type battery pack should I grab for this?

For an AM receiver you should be able to find one cheap on Ebay or something. What radio are you going to use? I will look around and see if theres something I can give you in AM. I was thinking about going 2.4 or FM in mine maybe. Someone else might have one they could loan or donate.

For batteries:
I use a small 800mah lipo that I had for a heli. I have the same XPS ESC that is in that truck and the lipo works great. Theres no lipo voltage cutoff so you have to watch the volts but I usually will race 1-3 times per full charge.

Before the lipo I used a 7 cell nimh pack. Most of the guys use a nimh pack. There are ones that are round and fit in the rear of the truck and there are flat stick packs that lay flat either on the top deck or below. Be creative, since that truck is already modified placing a battery should be easy.

Thanks Guy for buying the truck.  I'm sure you'll have fun with it.  For just an AM 27mhz receiver, I would recommend one of the Traxxas micro AM receivers, like this:

Traxxas 27Mhz AM Micro 2216 Receiver Crystals E/T-Maxx - eBay (item 380266917925 end time  Oct-07-10 19:37:09 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/Traxxas-27Mhz-AM-Micro-2216-Receiver-Crystals-E-T-Maxx-/380266917925?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5889acb025)

Those are about as small as you can get.

By the way, I do have a brand new HPI AM radio and receiver for sale, too, if you are interested.  $15 for the set with green, channel 5 crystals.
