Those little buggers suck. What I do is keep the diff adjuster nut on the other side as loose as possible but threaded on, and push everything towards it to get it out of the way of the slot where the clip goes. Then I use needle nose pliers to position the clip on the bearing with the open side towards the slot in the shaft. Then I turn the pliers up on end so one side of pliers is behind the shaft and the other side is behind the clip. Then I cup my other hand over the end and gently squeeze the pliers till the clip "pops" in. Sometimes it flies away eek
