Title: looking for VMG parts
Post by: ronajon on November 03, 2010, 02:10:46 PM
hi there,

just dusted of my vmg for my kid to play with, but it seems there are some parts that need replacement.

i looked al over the internet already for spareparts but with no luck until now (i hope  :D)

the parts im looking for

hex 7 battery pack ven-1533 (or if possible some battery mod, perhaps lipo or DIY?)
gear set ven-4410 (one of the gears is missing teeth)
fireball 370p motor (seems to be the easiest to get, venom racing still has it)

You can get a battery pack at most hobby shops,  just ask for one that has a mini-t connector on it.   I'm running a 6 cell in mine.

As for the gears,  do you need the pinion? or the tranfer case gears?

I've seen the fireball motor on ebay for a very good price.  that what I run in mine as well.     Let me know on the gears.  I know I probably have some.

just found and bought the transfer gears on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380258182754&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:NL:1123#ht_2323wt_936

bought 2 set to be sure.

for the battery pack: does it need to be 8,4v 1100mAh (btw is that 1100 per cell or 1100 combined with 7 cells?). and it needs to be fitted in the battery compartiment, so don't know if a 6 cell will fit?

what I am running is a 7.2 volt 6 cell pack 1600mah.   it fits in the back fine.  Most of us mount the battery permanent with shoe goo, or you can just put a piece of foam or something to hold it in place.   the 1100 is a the mah rating.  the higher the # the longer the run time.

what you purchased was the servo gears (for the steering servo)  is that what you needed?   I figured you needed driver gears for the transfer case or the pinions that mount to the motor.

you are right, i now see i bought the wrong set of gears ...

actually need the driver gears, not the pionions or the steering gears. if anyone has a set of driver gears let me know!

for the battery, i live in holland, we don't have a radioshack or some sort of rc-store in every place. most of the items i need to buy from the internet. does it not need to be 8.4v and / or 1100mAh?

just found a store where i can buy the battery pack.
there are different voltages / amperes possible, what is recommended?

6v 1300 mah jr bus
6v 1500 mah jr bus
7,2V 1300 mah mini tamiya
8,4v 1300 mah mini tamiya
9,6V 1300 mah mini tamiya

(i already ordered the 370p motor, so that's one item less  :) )

what kind of bus do i need for the vmg? tamiya, mini tamiya, bec, other?

this it pretty much the same battery I'm running in mine.

7.2V 1600MAH NI-MH BATTERY MINI-T MLST MLST2 DYN1456 - eBay (item 260679916230 end time  Nov-17-10 07:33:56 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/7-2V-1600MAH-NI-MH-BATTERY-MINI-T-MLST-MLST2-DYN1456-/260679916230?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb1bbdac6)

this one even has the mini-t connector that you want.   the tamiya connector is different than what the VMG has so it will need to be changed to the right one.

you can run either the 8.4 volt or 7.2volt batteries.  (6 or 7 cell) and the higher the Mah # the better runtime you will get.

read somewhere that with the 370p engine the battery pack better not has 7 cells?
what's the best pinion to use on the 370p? the ebay shop where i ordered it said not larger than 12 tooth?

Battery link doesn't work.

I haven't had any problems with mine.  I don't think any of us are running 7 cell packs.

yep, that's the right battery.   will work great.

Haven't been able to locate the gear.  Might be good to pick up one in an auction cheap,  then you'll have extra parts when you need them.

I was wondering if anyone had a extra set of axles and trans? I'm working on building a tube chassis and want to keep a small stable without having to sacrifice a truck for it. Thanks.

best place we've found is just to keep your eyes on ebay.  they pop up from time to time.
