« Topic Start: September 30, 2014, 07:23:13 AM »

So I’ve been talking about the upcoming Ice Melter Wyoming race with Shannon.   It looks like he is going to move the date up a week to February 6th, 7th and 8th. (Friday – Sunday).  This will hopefully allow a better hotel rate as well as it moves it away from the holiday weekend.   This also move it so it won’t be over Valentine’s day.

I'll update as the info is finalized.   flex

Additional information:
This race is being run as part of the Wild West Winter Carnival in Riverton, Wyoming.  Members of Salt Lake Mini-Z have attended the last 7 years and it’s tons of fun and lots of great people.  The race is held inside the casino (in the Ball Room) Kids are welcome to attend and race but are not permitted in the gaming area. There is a stage that is used for the drivers stand and a nice big track is setup. There are lots of great people to talk with and get help from. They have a raffle drawing that you are entered into when you register for the classes, one per class.

There is an onsite Hotel with discounted rates for racers.  Nothing like racing all day and having your room 5 minutes away when you're done.

This is a great race to attend and we have great support from our Salt Lake Mini-Z Club Members.   As always lets figure out who is going and we can carpool together to save some cash.  

they are thinking of adding a 70T Formula 1 class or possibly changing the 50T to a 70T class depending on who would be participating in what class.

I need to know from those that are going to this races if you would run 50T or 70T if they were both options.

I'll start.

Brian - will run 50T if offered or 70T if the 50T class is dropped.
Cygen - will run 50T if offered or 70T if the 50T class is dropped.

As a frugal (that means cheap) racer my vote is to keep all motors at the 70 turn we already all have rather than buy all new motors for the Racer, F1, and Nascar classes. This would keep the cost down and hassle of keeping track of motor numbers.

Other benefits would include:
  • Laying out lots of advanced money for the motors
  • Less time to get set up for racing and having to acclimate to the speed of the cars with the faster motors.
  • No extra soldering
  • Less chance of blowing up a board due to incorrect soldering
  • No new motor break in time.
  • Less chance to buy replacement motors because you got a bad one

I really dont think anybody would cheat with motors. For many racers extra speed is not an advantage.

If I was the race director I would have these classes:

Novice (kids)
Box Stock + set gearing, bearings, tires, and wheel nuts.
Racer 70 turn stock motor, open mods
F1 70 turn stock motor, open mods
Nascar 70 turn stock motor
Pan Car - Lexan body only - Open motor and mods
Offroad Buggy - 50 turn motor??, open mods.

That's just my opinion. I'm up for anything though and just looking forward to going once again.
