It looks like I will have my hands on an upgraded RTR VMG and a nearly complete roller (part truck! Woot!) in the next day or so.  I put a WTB ad up on KSL and a guy called me about a couple nearly new trucks that he wants to get rid of for cheap.  I'll probably go pick them up tonight or tomorrow.  So, it looks like I'll be able to join in the monster truck fun with you guys after all.

I believe the RTR will have a few upgrades like bearings and oil shocks.  However, the guy said he hasn't modified the steering.  Does anyone have any info about the steering mod?  Links or pics would be much appreciated.

Also, is brushless allowed in the racing?

Thanks!

Yes there are quite a few pics of ours in the gallery. Mine has some decent shots of the mod I did in my gallery.

Here is something else I found while searching google VMG Steering Mod And this also

No, not currently, but you wont need it anyway for what we do. Most of the guys have the fireball motor or equivalent and a 7 cell battery and its fast enough for what we do with them. I use a 2 cell 800mah lipo and have to turn down my throttle to less than 50% as its just too fast and uncontrolable for the racing (but its fun in the wide open big-grin ).

Thanks for the info Russ.  I like how you executed the mod, crawler style.  I'll probably do it the same way.

Well, I have a VMG now, actually two.  They weren't in the best condition but at least one of them is worth fixing up.  The other might only be good for spare parts.  I'll have to give them both a good cleaning and take-down to see what I really have to work with.

Anyone know what pitch the pinion is for these?  Is it 48?

Sorry Ron, you'll probably want to keep looking.  #2 is pretty rough.

I have lots of new stock parts if you need some gears. Just FYI.

I tore down one of the VMG's last night.  Mechanically, it seems to be in very good condition.  The gears look like new.  It was just the outside that's dirty.  Now, on to #2.

Regarding the steering mod, what servo do you guys recommend?

So, is 2 cell lipo okay?  Or does it have to be 7 cell NiMH?

I run a 800mah 2 cell lipo. Brain updated the rules to allow lipo but it is a bit confusing where it says 4-7 cells, however it does say lipos allowed in the main regulations so I would say yes. I run one for the weight and run time. The rules are kinda out of date and have changed alot since they were written, but we decided that it was really just for fun, so as long as its a similar monster type truck I think just about anything would be ok. flex

I think I asked this before, but didn't get an answer.  What pitch is the pinion for the VMG?

Not exactly sure but it seems to me they are the same as the RC18's. Here is a link to Voodoo RC, They took over the 1/18th forums and moved all the old info there. You can check the link to see if there is anything helpfull there. Good luck.
